WHAT TO ACCOMPLISH IN JULY FOR YOUR MARKETING FOR THE 2009 CHRISTMAS / YEAR END SEASON

With the end of the year and the holiday shopping season approaching, considering your marketing strategy for the holiday season in August gives any retailer a head start. By starting your holiday marketing plan early you will be ready, and the shoppers will be waiting.

With the current economic status, you will not see many consumers on holiday shopping sprees. However, you will see consumers starting their holiday shopping ahead of time searching  for good deals on great gifts for their loved ones as it gets closer to the holiday season.

One way of utilizing your holiday marketing this season is by analyzing your sales for last year's holiday season in 2008. Seeing how much your average sale was last year you can help you decide the prices that your average customer will be looking for.  

In order to get sales you also need to give sales. American Research Group found that, "Shoppers continue to say that they are more apt to wait for sales… 50% say they plan to wait until the items go on sale"  By offering your frequent buyers a special discount on any gift sets, or letting them know of a "secret sale" you will be having, they will believe that spending their money at your store gets them the best deal possible.

Internet shopping is a rapidly growing trend when it comes to holiday shopping. If you don't already have a website this is a great time to get one for your retail store.

In 2008, eMarketer.com found that 63% of internet users in 2008 researched a product before buying it. By putting your store merchandise on line, busy customers can shop during their free time and come into your store knowing what they want.

However, going to the customer on the internet is important too. Advertising your store on social networks can also be beneficial to expanding your customer base and spreading the word of any new products or specials. It is expected that for 2009 US retail e-commerce sales will be near $142.4 billion, and that the most popular advertising/marketing tactic will be the web.

A good marketing plan for this upcoming holiday season will be important for sales. However, reaching your customers is not hard if done right.
